Course Overview


Our Advanced Training dives deep into what it truly means to be a Pain Coach. This immersive 12-week program combines live education, 1:1 mentorship, and real-world application of chronic pain coaching. It’s a rich, hands-on learning experience that is both challenging and deeply rewarding. designed to help you become a confident, competent Certified Pain Management Coach (CPMC) who knows how to guide clients from surviving to thriving.

This advanced course is ideal for coaches who are ready to expand their knowledge, grow their practice, and make an even greater difference in the lives of those living with pain. You’ll receive 36 Continuing Education Units (CEUs); enough to fulfill the NBHWC’s 3-year renewal requirement, while gaining advanced skills that allow you to command premium client pricing and open new doors for professional advancement.

Our goal is to provide our students with training in chronic pain coaching through education, practice, and mentoring. Through coursework, readings, homework, mentoring, and hands-on coaching practice, students gain the knowledge and skills to become confident, capable pain management coaches that are equipped to understand chronic pain and help clients return to living full, active lives.

Prerequisites

Please provide either your NBHWC-approved training certificate or your NBC-HWC certification. If you are not board-certified but have sufficient training in coaching, Motivational Interviewing, or a related area, you may submit a recorded coaching call for staff review. Admission will be granted if your recording meets the PCA rubric standards.


Course
Expectations

Students must have a reliable phone, internet access, and basic computer skills (email, video streaming, typing, and calling capability). To earn certification, participants must complete all readings, exams, homework, and attend all classes. A passing score of 80% or higher is required on the final exam. Students must also submit three recorded coaching sessions (minimum 30 minutes each) and pass at least one. Each session includes 20 minutes of mentoring feedback. Students are responsible for completing all course requirements by the end of the program.


Course
Content

Topics include: The Pain Client, Navigating Discord, Addictions and Chronic Pain, The Brain-Pain Connection, Movement Therapy, Suicide Prevention, and Group Coaching Practicum. Students will explore the science behind mindfulness, stress and fear reduction, and anger and acceptance. Requirements include reading exams, a comprehensive final exam, and submitting three recorded coaching sessions focused on chronic pain, passing at least one. Each student also receives mentoring feedback and access to PCA’s Student Center for all course materials and resources.
